Does medical technology help fight the heat

The heat that has established itself in many regions of Central Russia makes us look for ways to protect ourselves from high temperatures. Besides traditional fans and conditioners there are some technological novelties which will help not to overheat.

In mid-May, a strong heat wave came to many regions. The inhabitants of Siberia, the Urals, the Volga region, the south and the middle zone suffer from the real summer heat.

Forecasters promise that in the coming days, the heat will be replaced by cold, if not frosty. But our organisms must be saved now. Air conditioners, fans, soft drinks, cool baths and cold wraps are on the move. Who can, at all, try not to go out of the house unnecessarily.

In recent years, there are more technological ways to get rid of heat or at least avoid negative consequences for the body. We present a brief overview of new medical technology, which will be useful in the hot summer.

It may seem strange, but in the mobile app market there are a number of services that remind you that it is time to drink water. In fact, they are designed primarily for athletes and those who are engaged in fitness – as you know, timely rehydration of the body in sports is extremely important.

But most solutions can be used every day to make up for the lack of moisture correctly and on time.

From the Russian language we can mention the application, which is called that: “Drinking water”. It is convenient because you can choose the time and amount of water you drink. The application will remind you of the sound of pouring water, so do not confuse with an alarm clock or messenger.

UV Trackers

In 2018, at the international consumer electronics show CES in Las Vegas, L’Oreal presented its My Skin Track UV, a wearable gadget that will remind you how long you can stay in the sun.

The novelty also seems strange at first sight, but according to the developers, it is very useful in summer. The development is a miniature UV sensor that you can attach to your clothes, bag or accessories.

Through a connection, the sensor transmits information to the smartphone about the amount of radiation the user has received. If necessary, the app will remind the owner that it is time to go into the shade.

My Skin Track UV works without a battery, like a bank card. Only instead of account information it records data about sunlight absorbed by the sensor every time. This data is then automatically read by your smartphone and processed.

How much water do you need to drink in the summer?

The application displays information in an understandable form: what percentage of UV radiation you have already received. The developers say My Skin Track UV will help you sunbathe more safely and reduce the risk of skin cancer.

This is not the only invention for measuring UV radiation. Earlier, the same L’Oreal introduced My UV Patch, a tracker that adheres to the skin and looks like a temporary tattoo. It needs to be read by a smartphone camera, and then the app shows how much sunlight your skin has already absorbed. The common appeal of all these gadgets in their design – usually trackers are designed in the form of stylish jewelry, brooches, bracelets, etc.

Technology for Children

In heat, we often worry not even about ourselves, but about the children. If adults are aware of the harm caused by excessive sunbathing and the danger of sunstroke, then summer is always a joy for the child. In order to return a child who has played in the sun in time, you can use children’s trackers and wearable gadgets to measure body temperature.

Children’s smart watch with built-in trackers is a popular thing, and there are a lot of manufacturers and models. There are also individual trackers that are attached to clothes, carried in a pocket or bag. But watches are better – they will not fly off.

When choosing a device it is better to give preference to proven manufacturers and read reviews. The location of the child should be determined accurately and the health sensors should not lie.

Special patches are available to monitor the temperature of your baby. They are disposable, attached to the body, and information is sent to a parent’s smartphone. However, the developers have designed these patches rather for babies to monitor their temperature during sleep.

It is equally important on hot days to keep an eye on the health of the elderly. Parents and grandparents can get carried away with their summer cottage work on a sunny day and forget to rest or take a medicine.

For them, there are special health trackers that allow you to monitor your health remotely via your smartphone. The tracker will signal if the host has left home too far, if his blood pressure has risen, and even if he has fallen, losing consciousness.

All devices differ in functionality. There are also those that are designed for people with dementia and allow you to track their location.

Heat Technology

Here are just a few modern technological solutions that can save us from additional problems in the heat. It should be noted that devices, applications and technologies in this direction continue to develop. But on hot days we should still observe simple rules, worked out by centuries: drink more clean water, move less, try not to go out in the sun and be more careful with air-conditioners.
